Not only is a new year quickly approaching us but a new decade. It can feel exciting and overwhelming at the same time. Don’t fear or stress out about your 2020 goals. I have a quick and easy 5 step process to help you kickoff your 2020 goals.
Let’s get into your 5 steps to kick off your 2020 goals because it’s time for you to do the work! Now what do you need to do?

STEP 1 – Write them down

Get in the motion of your 2020 goals by writing them down. Do you think I’m playing with you? Yes, write them down. You need a book dedicated to your 2019 goals because you want something to guide you through 2020 so you need to write them down.

What happens when you write your goals down? It becomes real to you and positively sees your steps as you can visit them every single day. They’re like debit cards that you pull out everyday as you buy your lunch or groceries, gas whatever it is, this is your go-to like after the Bible or Koran this is your number two.

STEP 2 – Create Your Goals with Deadlines

goals

It’s not always just writing down your goals. But it’s not knowing when you’ll reach them! However, you have to try or put in the work to reach them. You’re also going to write the date you want to complete this goal all of the should not be at the end of the year.

If you’re going to complete it at December 31 2020! I say “Don’t do it!” Why?

You really want to have your goals finished by October 31 or November 15th. Do you think the year is over? Let me tell you what you’re gonna do. If you’ll make it through months I know you’ll gonna stop and you will forget because you’re not used to working on that. When the time I do a quarter check then you’re going to sort of remember this book and you’re going to remember what you wrote down. You’ve got to keep pushing.

You might want to break your goals into 3 months because you may have another one that you wanted to finish the other month. And then you may find some are taking longer than the three months to four months to six months so you’re pushing those out to October 31st.
Achieve your goals one bite at a time.

STEP 3 – Have an Accountability

goals

I started this accountability group around 2017. My accountability partner has been with me since before I had the tech company idea she has seen me going from thinking about an idea to building out something to fly in places.

When you have accountability, you are actually feeding and pushing into somebody else’s dream. When you have accountability to what you write in here and you meet with them on a regular basis, because we meet just about weekly, our plan is to meet weekly that’s what happens when you have accountability.

I ended up having a four-person accountability group. You should have at least 2 people, why? Because if somebody if one person cancels the meeting, at least is more than likely, two out of the three of you will show up. So you have to have accountability.

STEP 4 – Accountability Groups

goals

For some people it’s really hard, that’s why it’s important to have accountability groups. What happens in your accountability groups? You talk about the daily action you will take between that meeting and the next meeting.

For example, whatever that service or that that you’re trying to sell, who is the top person you need to reach out to you need to connect with? You need to get this moving. Sometimes Guess what? That’s all I’m doing. I’m researching who I need to contact. I need to find a person’s name, email address, and phone number and you know what, I come back and say y’all, I get no numbers, but I got names and I got email addresses. Guess what? That is the difference when you have just an overall goal and how really looks when You’re taking action and those accountability people are there.

Your accountability group is there for you to say that you didn’t do anything last week, they remind you of things you did like “Sir, ma’am. Are you with us in achieving your goals because all you’re doing right now is giving me excuses?” Because if you show up and give excuses, guess what you’re gonna do? You get kicked out by your accountability partners.
Accountability group looks like is you writing down daily actions and sharing them with your accountability partner, and you are giving updates.

STEP 5 – Review

You want to review what you’ve done. Sometimes the goals that you have written down really for the year are not yearly goal. That goal could be five years ago and you need to pyramid it down or tear it down to what you can do over the next four years to hit that five-year goal. It happens.

When you go to high school or even kindergarten and then a first-grader, you graduated for 5th grade, what I’m saying is you are having progress but what happens is that through those years you are reviewing your progress. Do you remember yourself having those progress reports on how you did?

The question is, Are you giving yourself too many goals or actions to take in between your accountability meetings? Are your goals too easy or actions too easy? Are they too difficult to try to accomplish in that step short window? So you really go back. Are you finding that you need to hire somebody to help you get through or reach a portion of that goal? Are you finding that you need to get some more be educated about getting something done?

A lot of this happens in an accountability group because when you’re coming back to them and you’re not getting stuff done, they’re asking you questions. And when you’re trying to remember the things that you did the actions that you take in order to fulfill things you can see that reviewing is truly important. Why?

1. It helps you figure out if the goal is too big to be done in a year.
2. It helps you figure out if you need to change your actions.
3. It helps you figure out if you need to break somebody else in or educate yourself more.
So you really have to sit there and review what you’re doing. It has it has to be making some progress.

I’ll discuss more how to select the right accountability partners. Because sometimes you’re looking at the wrong things when you’re looking at selecting accountability partners been there, done that, didn’t work out. I’m just saying…
