I help organizations use data to make informed business decisions. As a Black female professional with a STEM career, I don't recall many times when I worked with other black female professionals or saw someone that looked like me in senior leadership positions. Business professionals are always told to find a mentor, but when you are from a different gender and race than most of the people you work with it's hard to find ways to connect so that you learn and grow as your other colleagues do. When your mentors are not from the same group as you are they probably don't understand the unique challenges that you may face and the feelings that come with those differences.
There was never any hesitation for me about connecting with PositiveHire and Michele Hayward. I saw the post for that first event and knew it was for me.
I don't recall exactly how and when I connected with PositiveHire and Michele Heyward. I probably saw a post about one of the virtual conferences. I remember how I felt after the first PositiveHire virtual conference. I was amazed. The speakers were wonderful and the conference was "FREE". I couldn't believe that all that great information from women in STEM and for women in STEM was free. There were women that I could talk to and discuss my experiences and know that they understood.
Since connecting with PositiveHire and Michele Heyward, my thoughts on what my career could be have changed. I've been able to connect with Michele Heyward and other amazing women in STEM. I did something I never would have done and started my consulting business instead of being an internal consultant for someone else. Many of my new connections are a result of my connection with PositiveHire. I am building the type of LIFE/work balance I've always dreamed about. The balance where my LIFE is large and the work that I love is a part of my life.
I recommend PositiveHire to everyone. I recommend PositiveHire to all the women in STEM I meet but I also recommend it to others. PositiveHire is for employers, employees, women in STEM, consultants, people at all levels of their careers, people who are transitioning into STEM.
