During the fight against COVID-19, people are feeling stressed. Some are at home with their spouse, children and extended family. Others are frontline workers providing healthcare, products and services needed to fight the virus.

No matter where you are during this pandemic, your stress levels are elevated. So how do you manage stress right now?

The first thing that we should do, to deal or manage stress is to acknowledge that you may be stressed out or you have stress.

Acknowledge it, label it and identify how you are feeling in that stressful moment. This stress experience is different for each one of us.

You may not have the same stress or symptoms as other people have.

Once you get to the point where you acknowledge it, you cannot stay stuck in that moment and in that feeling.

People say “Think Positive”.  Positive thinking is amazing. But when you’re at levels of stress, it goes into fight or flight. What I recommend when you feel that you are stressed, even at home or wherever you are, it’s doing simple math.

Yes MATH!

What math does is it gets your mind, the blood flowing to your mind, to your brain, away from your emotions. It helps you to critically think, once you have your emotions under control then you can replace that thought that you were having with a more positive thought.

A lot of times with women, we want perfection. But right now, we just have to be happy with making progress, not perfection. Permit yourself to not be perfect right now. Because if you don’t, then you’re putting unfair pressure and stress on yourself.

You want to act normal in a dysfunctional and chaotic situation right now. It’s just finding at least one thing that we can control. And finding some solace and solitude and peace in that.
