These failures are often rooted in decisions made about management structure, operating processes, and the organization’s underlying incentives. Over time, these decisions undermine people’s emotional ability to bring their best selves to work and positively influence the status quo.

At some point, leaders will usually step in to try to solve the problem—cue the “culture change” initiative.
